Universal Residential

Retirement Housing

Group Project

Project Description: The Retirement Community Design project was completed during Studio III, and focused on universal and trans-generational design in the context of residential care and alternative living environments. My responsibilities of this project included project management, drawing the floor plan in Auto CAD, rendering the floor plan and a portion of the elevations, as well as the creation of multiple posters for the final presentation.

Concept Statement: Our design is based on comfort, accessibility, and exploration. Our main goal is to ensure our diverse generational family can live comfortably while living the lifestyle of their choice. We want to allow those who reside here to be able to have their own boundaries, but also grant them assistance if needed. With our free-flowing layout of the building, we are ensuring that there are easily accessible rooms and utilities for everyone within the family. Biophilic attributes will be found throughout the home to help ensure that the clients can be in touch with nature without having to step foot outside. However, the surrounding landscape is abundant with foliage and a variation of amenities found. This attribute will also help with the mental states of all residents, helping to relieve stress and a healthy oxygen flow. With our universal design principles stated, we are making sure to create a feasible atmosphere that will circulate around the needs of the residents.

Smart Home Products and Technology

  • Home Automation

Automating the ability to control items around the house—from window shades to pet feeders—with a simple push of a button (or a voice command). Some activities, like setting up a lamp to turn on and off at your whim, are simple and relatively inexpensive.

A digital pill dispenser that looks like a seven-day model, although each module is locked until that specific day and time.

  • Grand-Care Systems

A multipurpose system that tracks daily activity, has medical monitoring (oxygen, blood pressure, weight, etc.) and can display anything: diets, plans, exercises. It's an interactive touch screen as well that allows the owner to perform tasks like on a phone/tablet.

  • Smart Refrigerator

A spacious smart refrigerator that allows you to play music, monitor your home, and receive notifications.

  • Fibaro Motion Sensor

Tiny low powered device that can be placed anywhere in your home. Monitoring activities without the intrusiveness of camera's
